James Tyler Jordan had abused his wife for 15 hours straight by assaulting, humiliating, and threatening to kill her. While this desperate situation was taking place in their Missouri home, Jordan had locked their 3-year-old son in their bedroom with no water or food. The Washington Post writes that “It’s unclear what sparked the particularly violent bout of abuse, but authorities say it might have ended in disaster if not for a deliveryman’s knock at the door.”

When a UPS driver came to their door, Jordan made his wife answer the door while he stood behind it with a gun to her head. Somehow she had been able to write “call 911” quickly onto the box without her husband noticing. Thankfully, the UPS employee noticed and contacted the authorities. If the brave woman had not been able to keep her wits after hours of abuse, and if the UPS driver had not paid attention to his surroundings, this story might have had a terribly tragic ending.

KSAT reports, “Jordan is charged with domestic assault, sodomy without consent, felonious restraint, unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held on a $100,000 bond. “
