The University of Texas will reveal their new mascot, BEVO XV, during their home game against the University of Notre Dame on Sept. 23.

UT Student Government made the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday.

Bevo XIV passed away in October from bovine leukemia. Following his death, a memorial to the massive longhorn was set in the south end zone for the season.

UT has had 14 Bevos in its storied football program. All of the Bevos have a burnt orange color.

Bevo wasn’t UT’s first mascot. The school used an American Pit Bull Terrier named Pig Bellmont from 1914-1923. Pig belonged to UT’s Athletic Director, L. Theo Bellmont. Pig was struck and killed by a car. Alumnus Stephen Pickney later gathered funds to buy a longhorn steer to use as the school’s mascot,  and the tradition has persisted ever since.

We look forward to seeing the new Bevo this fall.
