Located along the Colorado River, nestled on the brink of the Texas Hill Country, Austin is a thriving city and home to a diverse population of tech employees, musicians, and students. It has an easy-going ambiance about it, and a wide variety of entertainment choices, making it one of the great Texas destinations for a vacation. Take some time to explore this charming city, doing one or more of these great activities, among the many others to choose from in Austin.

1. Visit the Bullock Museum

At the Bullock Museum, you can learn all about the state of Texas. They highlight history, heroes, and even modern-day accomplishments. There are a number of science-based exhibits for young and old alike, and in the summertime, there are free concerts onsite. Year-round, the museum boasts special attractions which are loaded with artifacts, and special days are set aside in the museum schedule to celebrate the many cultures that makeup Texas’ population. If your visit falls on the first Sunday of the month, H-E-B covers your admission!

2. Tour the Texas State Capitol

Enjoy a day touring the Texas State Capitol located on Congress Avenue. Free tours give details on the state’s history, including when it was its own nation, up to and including its present time as part of the United States. Explore exhibits and pictures ranging from contemporary to historic, and get a glimpse into special projects that the city of Austin has in store for future growth.

3. Enjoy Live Music Indoors or Out

Known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin is famous for its support of musicians, and hosts an amazingly broad range of musical events and festivals through the course of a year. There are also a great number of live music venues throughout the city, not to mention the recordings that take place at the Moody Theater for the iconic Austin City Limits!
