Universal City, Texas, is a community of nearly 20,000, which borders San Antonio’s northeast side. Universal City is nestled between I-35 and Randolph Air Force Base and is the perfect combination of big city amenities and small town charm. Located conveniently off Loop 1604, Universal City is a great place to visit and explore. Here are just a few of the fun places and activities that Universal City has to offer:

1. Movies in the Park

During the summer months, Universal City Park is busy with activity, especially on select Saturday nights for Movies in the Park. Movies in the Park is sponsored by the city and local businesses and features family-friendly movies played on a giant, inflatable movie screen. Everyone is invited to participate in this free event. People young and old bring blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers and stake out a spot on the grass. Each movie night begins with a different activity like a challenging obstacle course or rousing game of laser tag, and features fun giveaways and concessions. The movie begins at sundown.

2. Universal City Dog Park/Animal Shelter

The Universal City Dog Park opened in 2011 and was a labor of love for all involved. The park is the only public place in Universal City where dogs can legally run free without a leash. The park features a separate play area for large dogs and small dogs as well as water stations and shaded picnic areas. The 1.3-acre park is located directly next to the Universal City Animal Care and Control Facility. The facility houses the city’s animal control services as well as the Homes for the Homeless animal shelter. The shelter has both dogs and cats available for adoption if you are looking for a new furry family member.
