In the newest installment of the BBC Three’s YouTube series of “Things Not to Say,” six people with vitiligo get together to discuss rude and ridiculous things others have said to them about their skin condition.

According to the Mayo Clinic, vitiligo “…causes the loss of skin color in blotches. The extent and rate of color loss from vitiligo is unpredictable. It can affect the skin on any part of your body. It may also affect hair and the inside of the mouth.” On people with darker skin, it can be more noticeable, but nearly everyone with the condition experiences a degree of discomfort from other people misunderstanding the pigment changes and thinking they’re contagious or otherwise undesirable.

Those with vitiligo in the BBC Three video open up about how people have reacted to their skin condition, and their honesty is very eye-opening to anyone who might not be familiar with the disease. The BBC has tackled many tough topics in this series like “Things Not to Say to Someone With a Facial Disfigurement” and “Things Not to Say to Someone With Schizophrenia.” The videos stay just a little light-hearted enough to keep you clicking from one to the next.
