I was privileged to spend time last week driving a lovely 2020 Volvo XC90, T8 E (Twin Engine with electric motor) plug-in hybrid. The XC90 operates on an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volvo’s large SUV seats seven, and it’s their flagship model.

Mine was equipped with all-wheel drive and could run on gasoline if needed. However, for those opting to plug in the vehicle, there is no cost at all for fuel. A terrific bonus for your pocketbook and for the environment!

I felt quite aristocratic driving around town in this elegant SUV, with its classic styling like the bold LED headlight design. For 2020, the company added new wheels, colors, and a modern grill. My Volvo was attired in a gleaming metallic white coat.

But it’s the cabin of the XC90 that whispers luxury, with its wood, crystal and metal elements combined to create a beautiful design. Volvo continues to be a leader in technology, with their amazing, state-of-the-art Sensus connectivity and infotainment system. You have easy access to navigation or entertainment choices on the touch screen. Apple Car Play and Android Auto are also options.

The company has also taken the lead in automotive safety. Their XC90 is a great example of the lengths to which Volvo goes to protect all passengers as well as those outside the car. With Volvo’s City Safety technology, drivers are equipped with such great tools as automatic braking and collision avoidance systems. It’s the only system on the market that detects pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals such as moose and deer.

Their Pilot Assist driver assistance is a giant step toward Volvo’s Vision 2020, with a goal that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020. Driving a Volvo provides an extra sense of security to even the most cautious driver.

The manufacturer’s suggested MSRP for the Volvo XC90 T8E AWD is $67,500. The company added several optional packages to the test vehicle. The largest expense was for an Inscription Package, which included 20” inscription, specially designed wheels. Also featured in the inscription package were Nappa leather seats, plus a gorgeous, specially designed dashboard with walnut wood inlays. A premium Harman Kardan audio system with 14 speakers was also included. The total price for this package was $6,300.

An advanced package featured a 360-degree surround camera, and graphic heads-up display plus LED headlights. This package was priced at $2,450. A luxury package included massaging headrests for the front seats, and leather handles and sun visors ($3,100). The Volvo’s wheels were upgraded once more, to 21” with an intricate 8-spoke design ($800). These options, plus destination charges, raised the total price for the test model to $86,950.
