Waco Zoo Names Adorable New Lion Cub After ‘Star Wars’ Character

By  |

KWTX reports that the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco recently welcomed a new member of their zoo family into the world, an African lion cub. Since the baby’s mom is named Leia, the zoo decided to stick with the “Star Wars” theme and name the baby Rey. Leia is now four-years-old, and Rey was born on October 5 this year. African lions are considered a “vulnerable” species, meaning they are likely to become endangered.

Rey is so unbelievably cute that you need to go see her in person to confirm that she’s real and not a hologram! On Facebook, the Cameron Park Zoo confirms that she’s ready for guests to behold her adorableness for a limited time each day. “She will be on exhibit everyday from 3 to 4, weather permitting,” they write. KWTX says that it must be 60 degrees or more outside for Rey to be able to have visitors.

In the comments section, one Texan couldn’t believe that they were just now hearing about the new cub. “We wanted to allow time for Rey and Leia to bond. Also, she was not old enough to go onto exhibit, so we waited until the public could come and see her,” the zoo replied.
