Watch the Legendary Charley Pride sing ‘Kiss an Angel Good Morning’
Back before he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry Hall of Fame, Charley Pride was a baseball pitcher who toiled in the minor leagues for a while looking for a break. It just so happens that his golden voice was a lot better than his fastball.
Being black in the country scene back then was no easy task, and scholars consider him a trailblazer in that regard, but in the 1970s Charley Pride established himself as the best-selling artist for RCA Records since Elvis Presley. It came on the heels of such hits as “Kiss an Angel Good Morning,” which was written by Ben Peters and featured on Pride’s breakthrough album Charley Pride Sings Heart Songs.
His rendition also became the first of his songs to reach Billboard’s pop charts, peaking at number 21. The Mississippi legend would go on to record many more country music hits, and the old timer currently enjoys his days as a minority owner of our very own Texas Rangers baseball club.
