West Texas A&M University, located south of Amarillo in Canyon, Texas, will welcome esteemed historian S.C. Gwynee in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center, Legacy Hall for a lecture on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Gwynee’s work will appeal to Texans who are interested in local history as he will present his newest lecture “On Offense: Writing West Texas from the Comanche Wars to Tech Football.”

As seen on the university’s website, director of West Texas A&M University’s Center for the Study of the American West, Dr. Alex Hunt, stated “As a writer, S.C. Gwynne has a knack for choosing subjects that compel us to read his work. Whether the world of high finance that marked his early career, Texas frontier history or college football, Gwynne’s work has drawn an avid readership and many awards.”

High Plains Public Radio points out that Gwynee might be best known as the author of the well-received “Empire of the Summer Moon, a magisterial history of the Comanches and Quanah Parker.” A couple of years later he penned Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson before tackling the topic of American football with The Perfect Pass.
