Stranded Window Washers Needed Emergency Rescue in Dallas
On Wednesday afternoon, two men cleaning windows on the tall Prosperity Bank building in North Dallas near the LBJ Freeway were suddenly left dangling 15 stories in the air when one side of the scaffolding became loose and plummeted downward. Though one side of the scaffolding still tightly held, the two men were left swinging on their safety equipment alongside the platform and were in need of rescue.
NBC DFW says that coworkers were able to retrieve one of the window washers, but the other worker was stuck in the air until the Dallas Fire Rescue arrived. Fox 4 spoke to firefighter Jonathan Formby who rappelled down to save the dangling man. “I think he was a little shaken. He wasn’t really scared. He didn’t really talk very much. I told him we’re going down. He said, ‘okay!’” Formby said.
The Dallas Fire Rescue told the news that they train for that exact situation with a window washing prop, and luckily, no injuries occurred during the incident. The cause of the scaffolding failure is still unknown. The weather reports say the wind was only 10-15 miles per hour that day, and though it’s not enough to lead to equipment damage, it’s probably more than enough to feel unstable while hanging 15 stories above the ground!
