Texas Woman Removed From Life Support Stuns Husband
The Pellettiere-Swapp family had to face the unthinkable after wife and mother of two Lyndee was found unconscious by her son Steven. After being rushed to the hospital, Lyndee stayed in a coma for 12 days and was put on life support.
As everyone’s worst fears came about, doctors told her family that there was nothing they could do. In respect of her wishes to donate her organs, they decided to take Lyndee off of life support. Each family member said a tearful goodbye, and the equipment was removed.
Her husband kept whispering to her, “I need you to fight.” But Lyndee told CBS 5, “I couldn’t move. I couldn’t talk, couldn’t respond. I could just hear conversations around me and about me. I remember a doctor opening my eyes, messing with me, and telling my family I was not reacting.”
Then, to the astonishment of everyone in the room, she gained the strength to say “I’m a fighter.” From there, she was able to steadily bounce back to health, against the predictions of doctors.
The Pellettiere-Swapp family’s story provides a beautiful reminder to keep hope alive. Lyndee says, “Just because you are not conscious does not mean you cannot hear. So you should talk to your loved ones if you are in that situation. They hear you.”
