Texas Woman Lived With Mother’s Skeletal Remains for 3 Years

According to authorities, Delissa Navonne Crayton, a 47-year-old from Seguin, Texas, lived with her mother’s remains on the floor in her home for the past three years. Crayton, who once worked as a police dispatcher, allegedly left the remains there when Jacqueline Crayton, her 71-year-old mother, passed away after suffering a fall in the home in 2016. According to local media, the home was being shared by the elder Crayton, her daughter, and her disabled 15-year-old granddaughter. With respect to the skeletal remains, Seguin Police Chief Terry Nichols said, “They were in a bedroom on the floor in plain view.”

The authorities went to the home on Sunday, July 7, 2019, following up on a child abuse complaint, which was called in by the 15-year-old, and discovered the skeletal remains. According to a news report, it’s also alleged that Jacqueline Crayton (the mother) might have lived, had her daughter (Delissa Crayton) taken care of injuries.

Local media reported that the elder Crayton was a secretary as well as a teacher’s aide in the Seguin school district for more than three decades. She retired from there in 2000. The Seguin Police Chief said that she was both well-known and respected in the area. Her daughter was arrested for injury to a child under 15, a felony charge. The police believe the granddaughter suffered considerably as a result of living in the two-bedroom house with the grandmother’s decomposing corpse. The 15-year-old has since been taken in by family members. The investigation is continuing, and further charges are anticipated for Crayton, who is presently facing a fine of up to $10K and what could be up to a 20-year sentence.

It’s a tragic and disturbing story that has more than a few Texans shaking their heads and wondering what the world is coming.
