Congrats to Sweepee Rambo, 2016 World’s Ugliest Dog

The winner has been announced for the yearly World’s Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California, and the title goes to Sweepee Rambo, a Chihuahua and Chinese Crested mix. According to the Fair’s website, Sweepee “won over the judges and the crowd for her lolling tongue and hairless coat” though the Chicago Tribune notes her oozing sore, blindness, and diapers as possible contributions to the well-deserved win.

Jason Wurtz bought the unpleasant appearing pooch for his first wife, who never really took to its less than lovely looks. Wurtz kept the dog, and now Sweepee is the recipient of $15,000 and a trophy. Wurtz says some of the money will go towards having a new budding tumor removed from Sweepee’s lip.

This year’s World’s Ugliest Dog Contest’s esteemed line-up of 15 contestants included Himisaboo, a dog who sports a comb-over similar to Donald Trump’s. The contest has been going on for 28 years at the Sonoma-Marin Fair and for 50 years overall in Petaluma!  The event includes a Fashion Faux Paw Show, red carpet, and meet and greet with the contestants. It’s an over-the-top celebration of man’s best friend who we all love, even when they’re more ghastly than gorgeous.
