Austin Police Catch Wrong-Way Driver Traveling on Mo-Pac

By  |

When a vehicle headed in the wrong direction comes down the highway towards you, your blood runs cold with fear. That’s what happened to eight Austinites who KXAN reports called the police when they spotted a white car slowly moving down Mo-Pac in the far left lane in the opposite direction of traffic starting around 11:39 a.m.

One person caught video of the car on their dashcam which they uploaded to YouTube. Thankfully, the Austin Police Department was able to meet up with the driver “…by 11:42 AM at MoPac and 35th Street.” The news report says that a tow truck was called due to problems with the car, and the driver was given a citation. One commenter on the article said that they witnessed the incident and saw that it was an elderly driver.

Frighteningly, incidents of wrong-way driving in Texas are more prevalent than one might think. On Thursday, Fox San Antonio reported that around 2:30 a.m. two people were injured in a wrong-way crash on 1604 in San Antonio. There’s an investigation underway to see if the driver was drunk at the time. No information was given as to how the Mo-Pac or the 1604 wrong-way driver entered the highway.
