Lubbock WWII Veteran Turns 100, Hopes for 100 Cards

Bryan Hardin’s birthday is coming up, and his family hopes that others will help them celebrate by sending him birthday cards. Hardin will turn 100 years old on February 5th!

“It don’t seem like I’ve been here that long,” Hardin told KCBD news in Lubbock. He’s noticeably lively for his age and is happy to be celebrating such a big milestone with his family. According to a CBS News report in 2014, only .02 percent of the population makes it to (or past) 100 years of age, and 4 out of 5 of those people are female. Both of Hardin’s parents lived well into their 90s so it seems like he has great genes for longevity.

Perhaps Hardin’s life has felt like it moved quickly due to its fullness. He served in the military for four years in his youth, entering WWII as a medic. He’s been married for 71 years to his loving wife Reta and has grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even one great-great-grandchild! When it comes to advice, Hardin stresses the importance of a positive attitude.

In order to help celebrate Hardin’s birthday and thank him for his service, his family would like to present him with 100 cards. They’re already received many colorful letters from friends, but they need more to reach their goal. If you would like to pen a birthday card, please send it to: B.C. Hardin, 2916 110th Street., Lubbock, TX 79423.
