Young Rockwall Man is Gifted a Car After Community is Inspired by His Story

Justin Korva, a 20-year-old man from Rockwall, Texas, walked three miles each day (one way,) to work and back, inspiring a group of strangers to take up a collection and purchase a car for him. The Texas temperatures were hovering at roughly 95 degrees on June 21, when Andy Mitchell saw Korva walking alongside the roadway, dressed in his Taco Casa uniform. He picked him up to give him a lift, and during the ride, Korva explained to Mitchell how he was hoping to save enough from his job to one day buy a car. Korva’s determination so inspired Mitchell that he later rallied the community of Rockwall together to raise the funds to buy the car for him.

Secretly setting up a donation box at a local restaurant, Mitchell got the word out about Korva’s story and personal effort, and the community stepped up in a big way. In only a matter of days, $5,500 had been donated. Having caught wind of the story, a local Toyota dealership also chose to help by cutting the price tag on a used Camry.

Mitchell, together with other excited community members, surprised Korva with the car, and his overwhelmed reaction was recorded by Mitchell’s wife, which ABC7 shared for viewers when it picked up the story. In an interview following the gift, Korva said, “Everywhere I go, loads of people are just, you know, ‘How’s the new car?’ It’s a blessing. I feel like after they gave me a car, I feel like I just want to pass that on to everybody, because a lot of people need that – to really know like, keep going, you know what I mean?” And, that’s not all. Rockwall community members donated so willingly, Korva’s insurance has been prepaid for a year and he was given a $500 gas card! After he was the recipient of such generosity, his advice to others was: “Keep your head up, because you never know what’s coming up.”
