Mark Cuban to Donate $1 Million to Dallas PD After Orlando Shooting
The owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, says he will make a $1 million dollar donation to the Dallas Police Department.
The funds will be used for 16,000 hours of overtime for increased security in the wake of the Orlando shooting. Particular focus will be paid to the Oak Lawn area, which is popular amongst the LGBTQ community.
After the devastating attack at Orlando’s LGBTQ-friendly nightclub, Pulse, many cities in the United States have bolstered their security proceedings. The chief of Dallas PD, David Brown, told WFAA, “These funds will be used primarily to protect the LGBT community. We will earmark and track the expenditure of these funds to ensure its effective use in creating a safe environment.”
The mayor of Dallas, Mike Rawlings, hopes that this donation will inspire others to lend a hand as well: “[Cuban] wants to do this, not only to help, but to say to other people, ‘come with me and help.’” If there ever was an important time to help, it’s certainly after the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
