New Veteran’s Facility in Manvel to Have 30 Comfortable Bedrooms
Located in Manvel, Texas (south of Houston in Brazoria County), the Bailey House Veteran Facility is in the beginning stages of becoming an inspiring nonprofit that aims to help veterans find a place to live and peace of mind. Named after the character of George Bailey in “It’s a Wonderful Life,” the founders hope to bring a new outlook on life to veterans who are struggling.
KXXV spoke with co-founder Mickey Purtlebaugh about the goals that will be reached in the walls of the 30-bedroom brick mansion in Manvel. In the beginning, the facility will be daytime only and provide activities along with counseling, computing and legal services. Later on, they hope to house up to 200 veterans with their families inside of the home. As they say on their Facebook page, “Our vision is to do more than just provide shelter.”
As of now, the Bailey House Veteran Facility is still renovating the house and asking for volunteers to come out and help if they can. “We’ve been getting about 10-15 volunteers a day up there that felt they had no purpose. But, just letting them push a broom, meeting other veterans, they have found purposes. And we know of at least three that have gotten jobs through other veterans,” Purtlebaugh told KXXV.
