5 Fun Things To Do in Llano This Fall

A prominent structure in Llano is the old Red Top Jail. Built in the 1890s, the Red Top looms over Llano with its 4-story gallows tower. Currently curated by the Friends of the Llano Red Top Jail, the building has been undergoing renovations and the interior is only open intermittently. However, the building and grounds are still worth a visit. Admire the history and architecture, snap a selfie with “Jail Buck” – the painted deer who sits in the courtyard, or listen for the whispers of the spirits said to still haunt the location. Join the Red Top Jail Facebook Group to stay up-to-date on future plans, tours, and upcoming events.

4. Get Your Hands on Some Authentic BBQ at Cooper’s

Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que offers nothing short of authentic Texas barbecue in the heart of the Hill Country. Worth the wait in line on its busy days, Cooper’s is a carnivore’s dream. Featuring a mouth-watering selection of meats including brisket, steak, chicken, pork chops, ribs, sausage and more, Cooper’s is a Llano staple. Don’t forget to choose from the enticing sides and desserts as well, then take your seat at a down-home picnic table and enjoy. Cooper’s is big on old-time barbecue joint style and funky southern charm.

It may have turned 90 this year, but the Lantex Theater is far from over the hill! This fun, vintage theater shows both current and classic films on weekends and special occasions. If you prefer live entertainment, the theater hosts the Llano Country Opry on the second Saturday of every month. Thanks to a recent restoration project, the theater now boasts a new digital projector and sound system, as well as new seating and carpeting. Follow the Lantex on Facebook for calendar and ticketing information.
