Ah, brunch. That delightful meal that lets friends enjoy breakfast at lunchtime. It’s a time to sit and let the worries of the past week just float away and to catch up and chill out. Here are five places you can visit the next time you are browsing for brunch in the Hill Country.

1. Hill Top Cafe, 10661 U.S. Highway 87, Fredericksburg, Texas

Founded in 1980 by Johnny Nicholas and his wife, Brenda, as a place where food and music-lovers alike can gather, Hill Top Cafe offers delicious food and live Texas music to boot. Their Sunday brunch menu includes a wide variety of appetizers, including seafood boudin and escargot. First timers must try Brenda’s very own Blue Crab Cakes. They also offer classic comfort food such as chicken fried steak and southern fried catfish. 

2. The Leaning Pear, 111 River Road, #110, Wimberley, Texas

Looking for a bit more of an upscale brunch spot? Then The Leaning Pear is for you. Originally built in the restored Lowery House in October 2006, it relocated to its current location in August of 2013. The restaurant is described as “a celebration of the rustic character of its original site, blended with a clean, fresh, environmentally sensitive design concept.” With a menu that offers unique items such as shrimp tostadas, ancho chicken tamales, and wood-fired pizzas, The Learning Pear is a brunch goer’s dream. 

3. Little Gretel Restaurant, 501 River Road, Boerne, Texas

Boerne’s Little Gretel Restaurant has been serving authentic Czech and traditional German dishes since 2009. With an ambiance that is decidedly festive, even a simple brunch can turn into a world-class experience here. Their Sunday brunch menu includes traditional lox, pancakes made from scratch, and kolaches. Oh, and did we mention their dog-friendly biergarten and “Wurst” Happy Hour? Prost!

4. NOLA Brunch & Beignets, 111 Kings Ct., San Antonio, Texas

NOLA Brunch & Beignets is a charming cafe that brings the taste of New Orleans to South Texas. Nestled in a quaint neighborhood by Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, NOLA serves Louisiana-style menu items such as a Blue Crab Omelettes, Eggs Rockafella, Shrimp & Grits, and so much more. It’s a nice way to enjoy that unique New Orleans’s flavor while still relaxing in the Hill Country.
