It’s been an exciting week for unconventional births. One woman give birth to her child on a flight headed to Dallas, while another delivered an extraordinarily large baby! Colin Austin Keisler was one big bun in the oven – he was born weighting 14.4 pounds! For reference, according to, the average weight of a newborn is about 7.5 pounds, and anything between 5.5 – 10 pounds is considered normal. Little Colin blew those numbers out of the water.

USA Today quotes Donna Hinton, clinical coordinator for labor and delivery at Lexington Medical Center, as saying, “You never know what’s going to happen. When you feel like you’ve seen it all, something’s going to come through and blow you away, but nothing like a 14-pounder.” His dad, Arthur Keisler, joked, “”He’s a toddler at three days old.”

As one might assume, Colin was brought into the world via cesarean section. According to CBS, this is the Keislers’s third child. Their first weighed 7.6, and their second weighed 9.8 at birth, so they knew that Colin might be a whopper. But, they could never guess that Colin would arrive already “24 inches long, about the size of a typical 4- to 5-month-old.” Even though he’s bigger than your average newborn, Colin is still as cute as a button.
