Meet Beaux Tox: The Texas Hill Country Dog Taking Instagram By Storm

There is a Texas Hill Country dog with a peculiar face who is causing people all over the Internet to adjust their glasses. “Beaux Tox” the yellow Lab was born with a severe facial deformity, causing his face to be misshapen and wrinkled. The deformity also resulted in blindness in the dog’s right eye. Fortunately for Beaux Tox though, this dog went from down-and-out to Internet-famous in no time flat!

A ‘Cinderfella’ Story

Beaux Tox’s story could have very well taken a different turn. According to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, Beaux Tox was born to a Labrador retriever breeder, and his cranial deformity was due to a lack of room in his mother’s womb among the litter of seven Lab puppies. Once the breeder saw that Beaux Tox had the deformity, he was given away for free and ended up in the hands of someone who wasn’t able to appreciate Beaux Tox’s potential or address his special needs. The dog was (ironically) named “Lucky” and spent his life alone in a backyard all day where he withered away to 42 pounds (the average male Lab should weigh between 55 and 70 pounds). His ears became infested with ear mites, which permanently compromised his hearing, and he also contracted heartworms, which can be deadly.

“Lucky’s” luck changed the day that his current owner, Jamie Hulit, took him in. Hulit decided that the name “Lucky” didn’t seem quite the right fit for this seemingly very unlucky dog. She changed his name to Beaux Tox. Hulit told the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, “I named him Beaux Tox because he looks like he needs injections. Or maybe it’s because I go without Botox because I’m paying his vet bills.”

Beaux Tox was very sick when Hulit began to foster him. He spent many days and nights at the vet, being treated for his various ailments. Hulit reports that it was “touch and go”  for awhile and she wasn’t sure he’d live through the arduous treatment for heartworms. Fortunately, Beaux Tox expressed a will to live that surprised everyone and today he’s a healthy dog who takes full advantage of life in the Texas Hill Country.

These days, Beaux Tox spends his days putting on his tie (yes, he really wears a tie–and it’s adorable) and going to “work” with a friend of Hulit’s at a Texas Hill Country real estate office, where he undoubtedly charms everyone he meets. His evenings are spent at home on the couch–a far cry from the former “Lucky’s” humble beginnings. An Instagram account was started a month ago for Beaux Tox, and he has already amassed over 20,000 followers. Beaux Tox’s story has touched many and serves as a gentle reminder that beauty, truly, is only skin deep.
