WalletHub recently released its report entitled “2019’s Best Small Cities in America.” The concept of moving out into the suburbs has long been one that families have idealized. So much so that the U.S. Census Bureau data for 2018 showed that suburban population growth outpaced city growth. Does this come as a surprise to our readers? Not likely. But what may surprise them are the Texas cities that made the list.

WalletHub has reported on quite a few statistics that have fascinated us. They shared the best winter holiday destinations with us. They covered the most fun cities in America. And they’ve touched on the hardest working states as well as the cities that are the most stressed in the U.S. As one of the top personal finance websites, it’s no wonder they would cover the best small cities in the country. We follow their reports for details on what to look for in our hometowns, what to hope for in the future, and where we might best relocate our families, should the opportunity arise.

In an effort to assist us better with the latter, WalletHub proceeded to study the small cities in the U.S. that offer a good quality of life, not to mention affordability. The company compared over 1,200 U.S. cities having populations between 25K and 100K and reviewed them against 42 key metrics. These indicators of livability included such things as housing costs, the quality of the local school system, and even the number of restaurants per person! As a result, two of Texas’ small cities ranked in the top 20. These included Cedar Park at number 10 and Southlake at number 14!

The study further went on to identify which places had the highest median annual household income (as well as the lowest), which small cities had better health statistics, and which were known to have the fewest average hours worked per week.
