If you were planning to ask Santa for a half-gallon of Blue Bell’s popular seasonal flavor, Christmas Cookies this year, better do a rewrite of your list. As Austin’s KUT reported last week, the holiday flavor is noticeably absent from most grocery store shelves and Blue Bell fans are dishing out the criticism on Blue Bell’s social media.

Christmas Cookies Hit Shelves in October

The flavor, which Blue Bell describes as, “a combination of sugar cookie, chocolate chip and snickerdoodle flavors paired with red sprinkles and a green icing swirl,” hit the shelves at local retailers (seemingly) earlier than normal. Making an appearance in October, the popular flavor was snatched up quickly, leaving the ice cream producers scrambling for the ingredients to make more. Judging by the fact that the flavor has all but been wiped clean of the Blue Bell flavor list on their website, it’s a safe bet that there won’t be any more coming to your local stores until next holiday season.

The company plans to make more next year, in response to the overwhelming popularity of the Christmas-themed flavor. In the meantime, you can try the Peppermint and Peppermint Bark flavors to give your mouth that ho-ho-holiday feeling or the perennially popular Homemade Vanilla, which pairs perfectly with apple and pecan pie.

Still a Half-Gallon

Blue Bell prides itself on maintaining the half-gallon size ice cream containers, while most of the industry has downsized. According to Blue Bell, “the half gallon still provides the best dollar value for ice cream lovers,” said Ricky Dickson, vice president of sales and marketing. “Our round carton provides easier dipping and it allows you 16 servings of ice cream.”

According to Blue Bell, many companies are now offering only 48 oz. of ice cream in each container. A true half gallon contains 64 fluid oz. of ice cream (measured by volume). That is a difference of a full pint of ice cream. Consumers get 33% more ice cream from Blue Bell than most of its competitors.
