Chief Meteorologist Mark Murray Leaving KVUE After 25 Years
After 25 wonderful years with KVUE, chief meteorologist Mark Murray has accepted a voluntary retirement offer and will be leaving the company.
His final broadcast, per his Facebook announcement, will air on Thursday, April 21. His announcement worked both as his public announcement and a plan for what will come next. He cites his 38-year-long career in radio and TV, and decides that he may go in a new direction that has always excited him.
That direction? As he says in his post, he has “always tried to be a big supporter of the live music scene and particularly of our city’s musicians, so perhaps I’ll explore something along those lines.” He says that he and his wife will of course stay in Austin because this is their community and their home.
He went on to issue heartfelt thanks to the people who got him started and stood by his side during his career, both on-air and off. He thanked Carole Kneeland, the “legendary KVUE News Director who took a chance on me and brought me to Austin in 1990.”
He also continues to thank his former and current news teams, and finally, he reaches out to his friends and fans saying, “thank you for allowing me to be the voice of calm during the storm. It’s an honor that I will never forget.”
KVUE will certainly be less bright without Mark Murray, but we wish him luck on any future endeavors he takes on!
