Tuesday night, Dirk Nowitzki, an NBA player with the Dallas Mavericks, scored the 30,000th point in his career. WFAA says that all of the players from teams across the United States are telling “the Big German” congratulations after this amazing achievement.

ESPN says that Nowitzki is only the 6th NBA player to crack 30K points. He now joins the ranks of Wilt Chamberlain with 31,419, Michael Jordan with 32,292, Kobe Bryant with 33,643, Karl Malone with 36,928, and Kareen Abdul-Jabbar with a whopping 38,387 career points. Out of the six, three players scored all of their points while playing for one team – Nowitzki (with the Mavs), Bryant (for the Lakers) and Malone (with the Utah Jazz.)

Fox Sports happened to catch a sweet moment (seen in the tweet below) when Nowitzki’s shooting coach, Holger Geschwindner, dried a happy tear from his eye after watching his student reach the goal of a lifetime.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement with glowing words for Nowitzki. He said, “Throughout his 19 seasons with the Mavericks, Dirk has been a model player and a terrific ambassador for our game. This latest accomplishment further establishes his legacy as one of the NBA’s greatest players.”
