I have been going to Michael’s for as long as I can remember. Whatever we needed in the way of crafts for school or personal projects, could be found at Michael’s. Founded in Dallas 40 years ago, they now operate more than 1260 stores.  Now days, if you’re looking to bake a wedding cake or make your own home decorations, supplies can be found in 49 U.S. states and Canada.

The city of Shiner, home to Shiner Beer, can be found between Houston and San Antonio, just south of I-10.  Though it was founded in 1909, it wasn’t until the ’70s that this artisan-well beer gained popularity. It was in the “Live Music Capital of the World” where hippies and country-folk alike made the beer a hit.

Luby's

As a little girl growing up in Arizona, my parents would frequent the local Luby’s restaurant.  We even knew the salad lady.  Who knew I would wind up living a thousand of miles away in the state that birthed this San Antonio cafeteria. The year was 1947, and Bob Luby had just returned from serving in World War II. He and his cousin, Charles R. Johnston,  opened the first Luby’s Cafeteria.  The company joined the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) in 1981, and then in 2001, Chris and Harris Pappas came on board.

Lily Jade is a company offering new moms an opportunity to be fashionable while still having everything they need for their little ones. The San Antonio-based owner Meggan Wood teamed up with her husband, Landon, to design and build her idea of “the perfect designer diaper bag”. Celebrities would agree that Lily Jade offers bags that are stylish and functional. Tori Spelling can be found carrying the “Caroline diaper bag” and sharing with all her fans as she blogs about it as well.

If you needed just one more thing to love about this great state, I just gave you EIGHT.
