Fall in the Texas Hill Country is a great time to visit.  There are lots of happenings this time of year. Festivals and trade days are very popular throughout the entire state, especially in the smaller town of the Texas Hill Country. That one of a kind piece you’ve been looking for all over may be just a booth away. Art shows and car shows are quite popular also.

Lost Maples Park is the place to go for gorgeous views, scenery, and large trees changing into the most glorious golds, oranges, and shades of umber. Uvalde Bigtooth Maples should be on everyone’s list of things to see. Many folks come here just to see the colorful leaves, but there is so much more to do. There are hikes, walking trails, and tours to make sure you don’t miss anything.

It’s the perfect time of year for fishing of all types. Hunting season in the fall is exceptional here. This area is home to more white-tail deer than anywhere else on the planet. It is also home to a variety of birds for those of you who are birdwatchers. Some serious birders come from around the world hoping to get a photo of a green kingfisher, found nowhere else in the United States. Green kingfishers are often seen perched on low, shaded branches close to a water supply where they catch their prey. The golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo may also be spotted in this area; they are both on the endangered species list.  No matter if you are into this hobby or not, you’ll love watching these beauties and so many others as they whisk through the Texas skies. Here is a good birding resource by Texas Parks and Wildlife: Birds of Lost Maples State Natural Area: A Field Checklist (PDF).
