Among the many hit songs George Strait’s racked up over the years, “Amarillo By Morning” was one of his first, and it still remains among the favorites of fans in Texas and beyond. In his return to Gruene Hall, in the Texas Hill Country, on November 16, 2016, video was captured for that song. The George Strait video was released to the artist’s official YouTube channel on November 26, 2019, and it’s posted below for your listening pleasure.
Amarillo By Morning was written by Terry Stafford and Paul Fraser. It was originally recorded in 1973, by Stafford himself. There were a number of covers recorded, but the most recognizable has been the 1983 hit it made for George Strait. The song was released on the 1982 George Strait album entitled “Strait from the Heart.” As a single, it entered the Billboard Country chart in February 1983 and peaked at number four. Since it’s original release and the many covers paying it homage, it was voted among the Top 100 Western songs of all time by members of the Western Writers of America.

The George Strait video for Amarillo By Morning has been viewed on the singer’s YouTube channel close to 70K times since its release. The visit to Gruene Hall, in November 2016, was an amazing one for the singer as well as his fans. Having recently made new records in the country music industry, he continues to incorporate the sounds and songs into his playlists that the audiences can both relate to and love.
His YouTube channel also features (in audio only,) “The Weight of the Badge,” which comes from his latest album, “Honky Tonk Time Machine.” Co-written by Strait and his son Bubba, along with Dean Dillion, the song was meant as a tribute to first responders. While honoring those he looks up to, his fans continue to look up to him, purchasing tickets to his continued Las Vegas residency in 2020.
