For some Texans, Golden Chick is their favorite place to get chicken tenders (make that order spicy!). With over 183 locations in towns and cities, and more opening all the time, this 52-year-old restaurant franchise must be doing something right. Not one to rest on their laurels, new concepts are brewing in San Antonio, and one location on the northeast side is definitely worth a visit to see for yourself, especially if you think all Golden Chick locations are the same!

Located at 22010 US Highway 281 N., this Golden Chick reopened on September 30, 2019, after an extensive remodel. Fitted with all the traditional means to serve delicious food, it’s also now equipped to provide beer and wine to customers who are 21 years of age and older. The interior is also updated with inspiration from Texas dance halls and honky tonks, including copper ceiling tiles, barnwood motifs, leather seats, and lit marquee letters.

This well-established chicken-serving staple began in central Texas, where the first restaurant opened in 1967 in San Marcos under the name Golden Fried Chicken. In 1996, the name was official shortened at all locations to Golden Chick. The popularity of the restaurant grew beyond San Antonio and Austin to Oklahoma, Georgia, and Florida, then internationally to Pakistan. China is next on the list!

Not much of a chicken tender fan? Try the fried catfish, chicken salad, and fried okra, alongside an adult beverage. They were also voted one of the best places in town to get sweet tea. Keep an eye out for more remodeling at Golden Chick restaurants near and far!
