The 21st Annual Goldthwaite State Championship BBQ & Goat Cook-Off is happening April 27 and 28. Organizers are planning for this Lone Star State Barbecue Society-sanctioned event to be even bigger and better than in years previous.
This weekend-long cook-off, which has over two decades under its belt, is greatly anticipated by locals and tourists alike. Everyone looks forward to the Friday afternoon Lion’s Club fish fry, the 5k Color Me Crazy fun run and 1k kids fun run, vendors, bounce houses and nocker ball for the kids, and the washer toss tournament. Additional entertainment includes live music by Mark Scott on Friday night, then the Cold Tap Band on Saturday evening. Come on out, enjoy the music, and dance under the stars in the park.

Hosted by the Mills County Chamber of Commerce at Goldthwaite City Park, barbecue teams from several meat categories will converge on the city, competing for prizes as well as recognition. However, to qualify for top honors as “Grand Champion,” goat must be the order of the day. With over $5,000 in prizes, the Goldthwaite State Championship BBQ & Goat Cook-Off is a great way to spend a spring weekend in the Texas Hill Country!

Open to the public, and free to attend, cooking teams for the Goldthwaite State Championship BBQ & Goat Cook-Off will be vying for cash prizes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place for each of the barbecue competition categories.
The overall Grand Champion wins not only bragging rights but a cash prize, as well as a berth in the American Royal Cook-Off in Kansas City in September.
