After years of planning and design, developers are on the cusp of opening two integral components of Grand Texas. In the works since 2013, the first two attractions of this 632-acre project opened in 2016. The multibillion-dollar entertainment complex, featuring SpeedSportz Racing Park and Grand Texas RV Park, will soon see the opening of Gator Bayou Adventure Park and Big Rivers Waterpark on June 29.

With the potential for huge job creation as well as the development of a local tax base for the area, the New Caney location was selected for the Grand Texas entertainment development due to a lack of such development nearby. “If your family comes from out of town and you live in The Woodlands, where do you go to have fun in Houston? You go to Kemah, but that’s a long way to go when you’ve got a great population here. We can be that destination,” said Grand Texas CEO Monty Galland.

Gator Bayou Adventure Park is planned to feature an alligator exhibit, a fishing hole, an inflatable aqua park, bumper boats, a petting zoo, zip line and obstacle courses, a 70-foot free-fall opportunity, and a five-story climbing wall. A beer garden and entertainment stage are also being developed. Big Rivers Waterpark is designed as a 40-acre feature using Texas rivers as its inspiration and will house a lazy river, a wave pool, water slides, and a barbecue restaurant. Four additional water rides are also anticipated for August or September, according to Galland.

In addition to these components, the Grand Texas Theme Park is also a key unit of the development, which is said to feature live entertainment, a number of rides, and five roller coasters. A tournament-quality sports complex is also being planned, including multi-use areas and fields to accommodate and attract area teams as well as those coming from out of town. The Sportsplex will begin development in September of this year while the theme park is anticipated for 2020.
