The H-E-B store in Kerrville, in the Texas Hill Country, is going to be replaced. The grocery chain’s hometown is Kerrville, though they’re now based San Antonio, and this hometown store will soon transition from its current 79K-square-foot facility at 300 W. Main St. into a 106K-square-foot Main Street structure. The new store is planned for opening late in 2020.

Among the new amenities that the Kerrville H-E-B will feature is a True Texas BBQ restaurant. And in case you’re wondering how great that really is, Texas Monthly previously recognized this dining chain as the best barbecue of its kind in the state! Other new store highlights include gas pumps, a car wash, beer and wine selections from around the world, daily fresh sushi, 22 self-checkout registers, a cheese shop, and a pharmacy that will have drive-thru service.

Meant to tip its hat to the roots of H-E-B, a decorative façade resembling the chain’s first store will be incorporated into the design of this new store. The original store was situated in the 800 block of Main Street and opened as C.C. Butt Grocery Store in 1905. In addition, the new Kerrville store’s Curbside logo will boast a Model T, in recognition of H-E-B’s early days in grocery delivery. In a recent press release, Julie Bedingfield, H-E-B’s public affairs manager, said, “With an enhanced in-store experience and commitment to top-quality service and selection, this new store allows us to continue to serve the growing needs of our customers and provide the community with the best we have to offer.” Even though the current Main Street H-E-B is not the site of its original store, a historical marker was placed at the property in 2016, in commemoration of the company’s Kerrville origins.

If you’re anything like us, your mouth is already watering, just anticpating that grand H-E-B barbecue next year!
