“It’s something that this community wanted. I don’t think the cost was anything that they really looked into,” Superintendent Lance Hindt told ABC 13 about the new, extremely expensive Katy ISD high school football stadium at 1830 Katyland Drive.

The $70 million, 43-acre Legacy Stadium is finally open this school year. Already famous for the price tag that makes it the most pricey high school stadium in the United States, the massive arena was under construction for two years.

The Houston Business Journal writes that eight schools will make use of the stadium. And now, two football games can take place simultaneously at the nearby 9,800-seat Rhodes Memorial Stadium and the 12,000-seat Legacy Stadium.

In addition to extra seating, Legacy Stadium also boasts “two concession stands on each side, two large female and male restrooms on each side and two locker rooms that can divide into four rooms for additional space,” ABC 13 writes.

Superintendent Hindt says that not only football players will benefit from the huge investment. “Fine arts kids,” dance, cheerleading teams, and the band will also have performance opportunities.
