Lady Gaga’s 2nd Black Dress at the Oscars was Designed by a Texan

If you tuned in to the Oscar magic that was taking place on Sunday, February 24, 2019, you would have been witness to the stunning display of finery that each of the stars wore on the red carpet. Not the least of which was the second of two black dresses that Lady Gaga appeared in. The singer and actress accepted her Oscar at the Academy Awards wearing a dress by designer Brandon Maxwell, a native Texan.

Lady Gaga has long been known for her eye-catching wardrobe (remember her Houston Super Bowl performance?!), including epic works from high-end designer names such as Nicola Formichetti, Giorgio Armani, and Karl Lagerfeld. However, the singer capped the recent slew of “A Star Is Born” public appearances on a high note with her one of her Oscars outfit, channeling what many in the fashion industry believed to be a classic Audrey Hepburn/”Breakfast at Tiffany’s” look.

As a double nominee, Lady Gaga opted for a sleek and classic design in her formal wear, in sharp contrast to the experimental and ultramodern styles she has been known to favor throughout her career. The black gown she wore during her performance with Bradley Cooper and also when she collected her Oscar was designed by Brandon Maxwell, who grew up in Longview, Texas. Maxwell attended St. Edward’s College in Austin, and he’s now one of the newest judges on Bravo’s “Project Runway.”

With simple yet stunning makeup and a gorgeous up-do hairstyle, Lady Gaga was the talk of the event, much like her performance with Bradley Cooper at the evening’s affair. Despite being known for her avant-garde style – remember the meat dress? – she shone in the night’s understated attire. Brandon Maxwell praised her on Instagram, writing, “This is without a doubt one of the proudest days of my life and career. @ladygaga wins her first Academy Award wearing a Brandon Maxwell duchess satin gown… Gaga, you have made me feel like an Oscar winner every day since the day I met you, you have made my dreams come true and held my hand tightly on the journey to becoming who I am, and I will love you like the sister you are for the rest of my life.” Visit this link for more photos of Lady Gaga’s Brandon Maxwell gown at the Oscars.
