On March 31, 1968, Johnson announced to the public he would be retiring from the political game after his term was completed. He left our country in shambles.  What no one really knew is how he truly felt.  He left a broken man, depressed and angry at himself.  He watched and read everything he could about the war. He became stressed which caused heart problems

LBJ left office in January of 1969. He and his lovely wife, Lady Bird, retired and moved to what they lovingly referred to as their “Texas White House” ranch in Texas

Fours years later, Lyndon Baines Johnson died of a sudden heart attack at his ranch on January 22, 1973. The day before his death, he had been informed by President Nixon that there was peace between the USA and Vietnam. His family believes he passed away peacefully and relieved.
