Open through January 5, 2020, the Magical Winter Lights festival in Houston is one of the largest of its kind In the U.S. At 20 acres in total, this event is a 52-day lantern festival featuring themed displays. They also host acrobatic performances, carnival rides and games, and an amazing holiday atmosphere that can’t be beat! This lights festival definitely ranks up there for family fun.
Magical Winter Lights boasts holiday displays that feature a number of different countries and so many festivities you’ll want to make a return visit. The tour starts at the Kingdom, with an amazing castle set as the gateway to it all. There are awe-inspiring grand archways that extend well overhead, not to mention the successive displays from around the world. The Kremlin, the pyramids of Egypt, and six more stunning sections with over 100 individual globally-inspired displays will both amaze and impress.

Shared on the Magical Winter Lights YouTube channel, the video above shows the layout and lighting effects as well as shows and games from last year’s event in La Marque. It even includes a look at the Houston skyline, including hidden intricate designs within each letter, outlining things that are unique to the Bayou City. Incorporated in the mix, and near and dear to Texas (with the Johnson Space Center) is a tribute to NASA, featuring UFOs and scenes from outer space! There are also interactive components, such as the ability to pedal a stationary bike and try to illuminate a likeness of Earth. The carnival is home to rides for children of all ages, not to mention games and all the classic concessions. To top it off, you can catch a glimpse of the whole display from atop the Ferris wheel, at 87 feet, which is the perfect way to cap off a wonderful holiday event!
