Award-winning actor and University of Texas Professor Matthew McConaughey has officially joined Instagram. His first post to the popular social media page was a video clip, dated Monday, November 4, 2019. @officiallymcconaughey explained his decision to sign up for an Instagram account as well as some of his apprehension around the decision.

“Look, this is my first venture into sharing myself and my views with the world, and I’m a little bit nervous about it because quite frankly… I know I want to have a monologue, I’m not sure I want to have the dialogue,” he said in the video. Launching his Instagram account on his 50th birthday,  Matthew McConaughey spoke of the value in using the platform to share stories and themes that were important to him with his fans. No doubt he’ll take hold of the reigns for his social media management, to improve and enhance the communication with his followers.

The “Dallas Buyers Club” actor and now University of Texas staff member further noted that he wants those who follow his account “to see me,” and his hope is that Instagram interactions will be both positive in nature as well as respectful. “Let’s have some fun with it though,” he said in closing the video.
