Texas actor and Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves McConaughey are working with BStrong (Bethenny Frankel‘s disaster relief program) to ensure that frontline workers and first responders throughout the U.S. obtain the masks and supplies needed to safely do their jobs in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

McConaughey and his wife gave away about 80,000 masks, a combination of surgical masks and KN95 masks intended to be distributed between Austin and New Orleans. Camila McConaughey emphasized the importance for them to ensure that not only the hospitals received masks, but the Austin Police Department and Fire Department.

On Thursday, April 9, 2020, the couple personally made supply donations in Austin, in the Texas Hill Country, where they presently reside with their family. Camila told People that they chose to do the delivery in-person in order to ensure quality control.

The McConaugheys did not divulge the monetary amount of the contribution their family made for these supplies in both Austin, Texas, as well as New Orleans, Louisiana (where they lived for a short stint while Matthew was on location) because their hope is to inspire others into action. Camila explained that the donation wasn’t about bragging about any monetary amount, but raising awareness for the need and that time still remained in which to lend a hand. To date, the BStrong initiative has aided workers in 15 states, distributing over 17.5 million masks. If you wish to help with this project, contact BStrong directly at the web link available here. Give a big round of applause to Matthew and Camila McConaughey for their help!
