Here’s Your Daily Dose of Cute: Meet Pim the Skinny Pig
If you haven’t heard of a skinny pig, you aren’t alone. Though this creature may sound like a slimmed down version of a hog, skinny pigs are of the guinea pig variety. These little guys are hairless everywhere except their noses and legs, and sometimes, they have a few tuffs on their backs. But for the most part, skinny pigs are bred to be hairless.
In a video uploaded this month by Barcroft Animals, viewers are introduced to Pim, a skinny pig from the Netherlands who wears little outfits to keep his little body warm since he doesn’t have hair to help him through those cold months.
“Today’s Skinny Pig originated with a cross between haired guinea pigs and a hairless lab strain, traditionally bred for laboratory use in dermatology studies,” Barcroft Animals writes on their video. They also link to Pim’s incredibly popular Instagram page, @pim_guinea_pig, where Pim has accumulated over 10.3K followers!
On October 20, @pim_guinea_pig posted that it was Pim’s birthday, making Pim a whole year old. His “cake” was a customized meal of a bell pepper and greens which are some of his favorite foods to munch on. People from around the world commented to wish the famous skinny pig a happy birthday.
