Thrillist recently released its list of 12 Neighborhoods Across America That Are About To Get Crazy Popular and one of these neighborhoods is located right here in the Texas Hill Country. Thrillist named Austin’s East 11th Street neighborhood as one to watch. This neighborhood offers a quiet slice of downtown living in our state’s capital.

According to the Texas Renter Blog, the East 11th Street area is rich with history and in the middle of an amazing transformation to a street full of retail, restaurants and residential.  The neighborhood, which was designated the African American Cultural Heritage District in 2009, is east of I-35 along East 11th Street and continues east to Angelina Street along Rosewood Avenue.

As Austin continues to expand, the East 11th Street neighborhood has been diversified and has become popular with Austinites of all backgrounds, looking to be close to downtown for work and play.  There are now many dining, retail and entertainment options in the area, and new apartments are being constructed at a fast pace. This neighborhood is also home to the famous Franklin Barbecue, an Austin eatery that has caused lines to snake around the East 11st Street neighborhood, until a fire destroyed the building in late August, resulting in a temporary closure of the business.

Austin is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the 4th-most populous city in Texas. It is the fastest growing large city in the United States and the second most populous state capital in the U.S after Phoenix, Arizona. Downtown growth has been aided by the presence of a popular live music and nightlife scene, museums, restaurants, and Lady Bird Lake, considered one of the city’s best recreational spots.
