New Willie Nelson Album Coming Soon: Hear Song ‘Ride Me Back Home’

By  |

“Ride Me Back Home,” Willie Nelson’s upcoming studio album will be released on Friday, June 21, 2019, and fans are preparing to complete their collections of his heartfelt music with another soulful addition. This newest project will be available in digital formats as well as on CD and vinyl from Nelson’s online store as well as part of exclusive merchandise bundles. It’s title track and the accompanying video were released on April 29, 2019.

The title track was co-written by Sonny Throckmorton, a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member, articulating a love for horses and their spiritual nature. Buddy Cannon, Nelson’s long-time friend and producer said in an official press release, “Sonny lives right by Willie’s Luck studio. He said he wrote that song because he was over there and saw Willie’s horses. I don’t even know if Willie knows that or not.” Over the years, Nelson has adopted over 60 horses, giving them a permanent home on his Texas Hill Country ranch after rescuing them from slaughterhouses.

“Ride Me Back Home” features three new songs co-written by Nelson and Cannon. The entire project has been described as a “reflective, upbeat journey through life, love and time’s inescapable rhythms viewed from Willie’s inimitable perspective,” and covers a variety of country and pop songwriters and singers. Mac Davis’ “It’s Hard to Be Humble,” (with Lukas and Micah Nelson), Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are,” and two Guy Clark songs (“Immigrant Eyes” and “My Favorite Picture of You”) also feature on the album. A revisit of “Stay Away From Lonely Places,” which Nelson first wrote and recorded in 1972 for “The Words Don’t Fit The Picture” is also on the track list. As an octogenarian, who just celebrated his 86th birthday on April 29, 2019, he shows absolutely zero signs of slowing down, including the release of new products through his Willie’s Remedy health and wellness line and taped-for-TV appearances that just took place in the earlier part of this year.
