Partnerships for Children (PFC) held a Back-to-School Bash in the Texas Hill Country in support of local kids returning to school. The organization is a Central Texas non-profit whose mission is to “offer resources, support and comfort for foster children and families” in local communities. With that in mind, they design events such as this to provide “real and impactful” solutions and supports—in this instance, allowing kids to return to school with confidence.

The Back-to-School Bash hosted caseworkers from Child Protective Services, who were invited to pick up $10,000 worth of in-kind donations consisting of new clothing, new shoes, backpacks, and school supplies for foster kids on their caseloads. In advance of the start of school, this event benefits those in need, while fostering healthy development without worry or issue. For the teenagers in care, gift cards were also made available to CPS caseworkers, in order that the youth could go shopping for their school needs on their own.

Partnerships for Children designed the event to assist children who are lacking the direct family supports their peers would have. In email correspondence regarding the event, a representative for the non-profit said, “For many kids in the care of CPS, it can be overwhelming to cope with an unfamiliar home, a new town or school district, new teachers, new friends, and different school subjects—all while also feeling the pressure to keep up with the latest fashion trends… This annual school supply and clothing drive allows kids in foster care to enjoy the same end-of-summer rites of passage other children enjoy—like picking out new outfits that will help them return to class with confidence.”
