San Antonio’s bustling Biergarten hosts several three-day weekends of Oktoberfest, including September 27-29 and October 4-7. Nestled near the Alamo on the Riverwalk, the Biergarten is the perfect place to celebrate the Bavarian/German heritage of many early Texas settlers.

Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich in Bavaria boast the world’s largest annual celebration, with over six million visitors a year. The festival’s historic significance started in 1810, when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Since then, the annual tradition attracts visitors from every corner of the globe.

San Antonio’s Biergarten Riverwalk launched its first Oktoberfest in 2014, drawing standing-room-only guests. The festival of German-style entertainment includes sing-a-longs, stein holding, alp horn blowing contests, and lots of lively German music. Beautiful Bavarian Beer Maidens take Biergarten guests’ orders.

The color, music, and spectacle of Oktoberfest add sparkle to the scenic Riverwalk. A ceremonial keg tapping by a local celebrity is a highlight of the event. Past celebrity participants were Ursula Pari from KSAT-12 and Pat DiGiovanni, CEO of Centro San Antonio. Other activities include Oktoberfest dancing, singing, partying, and good old Bavarian-style fun. Plus, of course, lots of Bavarian and other brands of beer.
