Tucked away in the Texas Hill Country sits the city of New Braunfels, where a spring break for the whole family awaits! If you’re dreaming about a getaway with a fresh take to clear the cobwebs off and get rid of the winter doldrums, this is the place for you. New Braunfels is the perfect setting for a family looking to enjoy down-time together, get in fun activities, and take in some of that Texas-sized charm and great hospitality. Heck, you might not want to leave!

Temperatures in this neck of the woods around spring break typically range between 70 and 78 degrees, give or take a few. Even if it’s not so sunny out, the area bluebonnets that have bloomed tend to bring with them their own brand of beautiful. Add to that the great area attractions such as Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch and Natural Bridge Caverns, and you’ve got a recipe for sweet family holiday success! Something so radically unique is sure to leave a lasting impression on your family for a spring break vacation they’ll never forget! Gear up and go caving. See the caverns with hand-held lanterns or participate in a guided tour. When you’re done there, drive through 450 acres of the Texas Hill Country at the wildlife ranch, which features 500 animals including exotic, native Texan, and endangered species.

If water is the missing ingredient, then Schlitterbahn’s flagship park has the fix! By developing a way to heat the water park to a comfortable level in moderate temperatures, Blastenhoff (the most popular part of the park) has become the place to be for all families looking to splash into spring break! It features the park’s biggest rides, such as the Master Blaster. That exhilarating uphill water coaster includes a couple of three-story drops. Families can enjoy unique riding experiences they won’t find elsewhere. Blastenhoff also features two kids’ areas and a family ride called Wolfpack, which takes groups of three through its twists and turns in a giant, circular raft. Also not to be missed is the Torrent Wave River, with pulsing waves coming every 45 seconds in an artificial current where tubes or no tubes are permitted! With 220 rooms and 69 different room types, it’s safe to say there’s space to suit any type of family. Schlitterbahn has vacation homes, modern “loftominiums,” and even riverbend cabins for a great retreat even when the weather’s unsure. Plus, waterpark passes are free if your family is staying on site!

Even for those who aren’t not looking for accommodation, the park offers great advantages to budget-conscious visitors. Families can bring in food (packed in coolers or ice chests) at no charge. The exception is glass or alcohol—those aren’t permitted. As well, parking is free. Schlitterbahn’s flagship park is designed for families to spend the entire day. It features 700 picnic tables, which are all free to use, providing adequate seating for entire families to stay, play, and relax.

In New Braunfels, there’s also no shortage of water fun that extends beyond the theme park. Families can get out into the great outdoors on two great area rivers, the Comal and the Guadalupe. Fans of the Texas Hill Country know that those into canoeing, rafting, kayaking, and SUP (stand-up paddling) can find a number of great outfitters in the area. In addition, nearby Canyon Lake offers those into sailing, fishing, and even jet skiing some time in the sun and on the water. For an opportunity to enjoy old favorite pastimes or teach the little ones new skills, visit area outfitters and the Canyon Lake marina for information on rentals and lessons.

Speaking of relaxing, those who remember what it was like to catch the latest movie at a drive-in theatre need look no further than Stars & Stripes. It’s ranked number 10 of 49 things to do in New Braunfels on TripAdvisor! As a top-ranking experience which the entire family can enjoy, Stars & Stripes Drive-In shows new movies in a double-feature format. Not only that, but the property boasts playground and patio areas, allowing families to make the most of their time in an atmosphere that supports togetherness. A green space is also available for soccer, frisbee, or even kite flying. Their spacious café serves dinner fare together with traditional theatre snacks (fries, burgers, shakes, chicken strips, and so much more), making the night out complete! Because what mom vacationing on spring break wants to cook each night while she’s away?! Families can arrive with plenty of time to hang out before the movie starts. Tailgate or have a block-party type of gathering and watch a double feature that’s drawing the crowds on one of three screens. Since opening in 2015, Stars & Stripes Drive-In has been the perfect setting to meet your family’s entertainment needs year-round. For spring break, it’s an absolute must-visit on your New Braunfels vacation!
