Celebrate Deliciousness at this Weekend’s Tamale Fest in Houston
The internet-famous Tamale Mouse lives in San Antonio, but he might be hitching a ride down the road to Houston this weekend for Tamale Festival Houston. Chron.com says the seven-year-old festival has quickly become “…one of the city’s favorite food events…” In its first year it drew a crowd of 1,000, and last year, it brought in 10,000!
According to the Tamale Festival Houston website, the event starts at noon on Saturday, December 2 at Navigation Esplanade between St. Charles and Delano Streets. Those who attend can try about 40 different tamales including those from local vendors “…Alamo Tamales, Balderas Tamales, Tamales Dona Tere, Granny’s Tamales, Geo’s Tamales, Harris County General Store’s BBQ Juke Joint.”
Tickets are on sale now for the event on their website, though they will stop selling them soon in favor of allowing people to pay entry at the gate. General admission costs $10 online, and $15 at the gate. There’s also a Director’s Club VIP option for $85 that gets you a seat at a shaded table and the ability to vote for the best tamales. Additionally, with this option, you’ll get four drink tickets, private bathrooms, and perfect seating for on-stage entertainment. And don’t forget the tamale eating contest at 4:00 p.m.!
