As the Texas Hill Country begins to gain some traction and notoriety in the wine industry, more of its citizens are getting interested in wine. Gone are the days of old-school Texas wines, infamous for being super sweet, usually pink and best over ice, as more and more Texas vineyards are making a name for themselves and our state in the global wine business. The industry is growing and changing, and vineyards and wineries are working hard to educate folks and help them to develop a sophisticated wine palate.

Not Your Typical Texas Winery

Among those vineyards gaining recognition and educating budding wine lovers is Grape Creek Vineyards. Nestled among the other wineries and vineyards that line Highway 290 outside of Fredericksburg sits Grape Creek Vineyards.

Immediately evident as you enter the main gates, and twist and turn among acres upon acres of thriving grapevines, is the feeling that Grape Creek isn’t your typical Texas winery. Considering that Grape Creek is a recipient of 27 Gold and Double Gold medals from the top California competitions over a one-year period, it’s safe to say that Grape Creek Vineyard is leading a new revolution in Texas wines.

Modeled after a Tuscan villa, the grounds of Grape Creek set the tone for what’s to come – a sophisticated, adult wine experience – where “wine is a pleasure, not a party.” The 100-acre estate features tasting rooms and a newly-added, enclosed trattoria featuring what is arguably the best view of the property as well as the best food for miles.
