Watch What Happens When You Try to Steal a Rolls-Royce Hood Ornament
The sales director for Rolls-Royce Tampa Bay recorded a video that has gone viral on YouTube. It shows what happens when someone attempts to grab the hood ornament off of a Rolls Royce. As it is explained in the video, this mechanism is standard on every Rolls-Royce produced after 2004.
Dimmitt Automotive Group uploaded this quick video on August 5, and it already has more than 2.5 million views. Obviously, people are curious about the luxury car that retails for well over $200,000, even for so-called entry-level models.
The hood ornament of a Rolls-Royce is referred to as “The Sprit of Ecstasy” and has been their symbol for over 100 years. Forbes writes, “Legend has it that sculptor Charles Sykes modeled the icon on Eleanor Thornton, a British beauty and secretary to Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, founder and editor of The Car Illustrated magazine.”
For those who are still confused as to why anyone would be motivated to snatch a Rolls-Royce’s hood ornamentation, Slash Gear speculates that maybe it has to do with a fashion statement. They wrote, “Back in the late ’80s, it was in fashion for people to steal hood ornaments from Mercedes-Benz cars and wear them on a necklace…That means that every Mercedes within 25 miles of a school was missing its hood ornament. Rolls-Royce isn’t having any of that.”
