Over 1 million bulbs are worth the trip to Poston Gardens in Waxahachie. Their tulip project opened on March 1, 2019, and is the result of the planning and hard work of the Daymark Living community which is right next door. The community was established to assist adults with learning disabilities and delays in reaching their full potential. Its residents will manage the tulips at Poston Gardens, greeting guests and helping with the retail transactions, helping them gain independence, learning valuable job skills and relationship-building in the process.
Daymark founder and President John Poston told waxahachiesun.com, “I was trying to figure out how my son Michael and people like him could be financially independent though commission-based work or profit sharing,” which is how Poston Gardens came to fruition. Poston went to explain that the land in Waxahachie was perfectly suited for their dream of a tulip garden that would hire people with learning disabilities.

Posted said that they have planted more than a million tulips on the land and restored a pair of barns in keeping with their theme of Dutch culture, local Waxahachie culture, and the rich history of the Walker family farm. Admission to the garden is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors as well as kids who two and up. A tulip sells for $3, and $1 of that goes toward providing scholarships to Daymark Living residents to assist with their $3,700 monthly rent.

The garden is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week throughout the springtime flowering season.
