Located midway between San Antonio and the Gulf Coast sits Yorktown, Texas. The town was established when a road was built, connecting the then-Texas Gulf Coast seaport, Indianola, with New Braunfels. This road became known as the Old Indianola Trail. These days, Yorktown is a quiet, peaceful community centered around high school football and church. However, there is one place in Yorktown that is anything but peaceful – the abandoned Yorktown Memorial Hospital, which is said to be over-run with the spirits of the thousands who died in the hospital.

Founded by the religious group known as the “Felician Sisters” that were part of the Roman Catholic Church in 1950, the Yorktown Memorial Hospital originally served as a rehabilitation center for those suffering from drug and alcohol abuse. The center eventually closed in 1980 and the structure was abandoned.

It appears as if the spirits of those deceased may still be lurking in the corridors, trying to escape the tormented life that they once led. For those that have experienced the ghosts in haunted places in Texas, the experiences that have occurred at this haunted hospital are the most memorable.

With reports of everything from talking dolls to large black apparitions to red, glowing eyes, most everyone who’s visited this abandoned hospital has experienced something inexplicable. The current person in charge of the caretaking of the building has had enough ghostly encounters to last a lifetime (or more).

He reports that if the lights are on at the nurses’ station, everything seems to be calm and he seems to be alone. However, if he turns the lights off, he has observed many individuals walking around. There are many that appear to be normal and could possibly be described as guests. However, there are many that look as if they are patients that belong in a hospital. Additionally, a staircase is kept closed off in the front of the building by a door with a pane of glass. Each evening, it is said that it sounds as if there is a tapping or rapping on this glass pane.

The Yorktown Memorial Hospital is on private property and trespassing is strictly prohibited. However, the building is available for use in film and for guided paranormal tours. Visit the Facebook page for more information.
